About Willow Software

An Independent Full-Stack Development Studio in Jersey

Willow Software is run directly by me, Graeme Moignard. I combine bespoke application development, backend systems, databases, integrations, infrastructure, security and monitoring, with clear communication and direct technical ownership from start to finish. I prefer practical, reliable systems over fashionable complexity, and I stay involved in the work rather than handing it through an agency layer.

What I'm currently building at Willow Software

Right now, a lot of my time goes into building and refining Salix Monitor 360, my own monitoring and operations platform.

It's designed for organisations that want more signal, less noise and honest reporting about how their systems are doing.

Full-stack development, PHP and security work I take on

  • Custom websites and CMS platforms with proper backend functionality where required.
  • Modernising or stabilising existing PHP and MySQL applications.
  • Integrating third-party APIs, data feeds and external services.
  • Turning a defined business requirement into a usable bespoke web application.
  • Native Windows, Android and iOS application development where it supports a wider web platform.
  • Security-focused reviews and hardening of existing systems.

Jersey-based, internationally capable

Based in Jersey, working locally and further afield

Willow Software is based in Jersey and works directly with businesses across the island and the Channel Islands, while also delivering projects remotely for clients in the UK and further afield. The same approach applies everywhere: direct communication, clear ownership and software built to remain dependable after launch.

Reliability matters

Comfortable in environments where security, auditability, uptime and careful change control are important.

Most of my work sits at the intersection of web development, systems administration and security. I have worked on everything from small brochure sites to more complex, data-heavy web applications, often where reliability, maintainability and auditability matter.

I tend to work directly with business owners, managers or technical leads who need someone to take responsibility for a problem and quietly sort it out. That might be a misbehaving website, migrating onto a new platform, building a custom tool, or tightening up how things are monitored and maintained. If you want to talk through a project, you can get in touch here.

I am not an agency and there is no “account management” layer. It’s just me, working with you, keeping you updated in a way that suits you.

I regularly work directly with businesses in Jersey, across the Channel Islands and with clients in the UK and further afield, especially where a project needs steady technical ownership rather than layers of agency handoff.

The human bit

A quick note from behind the keyboard

That photo is probably from around 2007, so it has survived a few browser wars, several questionable CSS eras and more cups of tea than any image file should have to witness.

Away from the code, I live in Jersey with my two children. I like cats, computers, DIY projects that tend to multiply, and the occasional sunny holiday.

Experience across development, infrastructure and operations

Over the years I've worked across creative agencies, ecommerce, internet security and financial services. That has included Barclays Bank, UBS AG Private Bank, Feelunique.com (now Sephora), security-focused firms and web development companies.

The work I have been involved with has covered general coding, secure hosting, PCI DSS environments, SWIFT-related systems, ecommerce development, monitoring, security tooling and systems where uptime, auditability and data integrity matter.

Application development

Bespoke web applications, PHP and MySQL systems, JavaScript interfaces, APIs, integrations, administration tools and data-driven internal platforms, alongside working knowledge of Java, C#, Python, COBOL, classic ASP, Perl and shell scripting.

Infrastructure and hosting

Linux and Windows Server environments, web and application hosting, mail systems, spam filtering, reverse proxies, load balancers, databases and the operational foundations that keep applications available.

Security and regulated environments

Experience across banking, private banking and ecommerce, including PCI DSS and SWIFT-related environments, access controls, security applications, SIEM tooling, vulnerability scanning and careful change control.

Monitoring, operations and documentation

Monitoring stacks, alerting, log pipelines, operational reporting, backups, technical design notes, support documentation and handover material that make systems easier to understand and maintain.

All of that experience feeds into how I approach projects: I prefer predictable, well-documented systems with sensible defaults, practical security and a clear path for maintenance. It also means I can usually understand the wider moving parts around a project, not just the bit of code currently on screen.

How I work

A practical, keep-it-running approach

I'm not a fan of throwing in new technology for the sake of it. If something simple and well-supported will do the job, that's what I'll recommend.

When I'm working with you, I'll keep you updated in plain language, not jargon. If there are trade-offs, I'll explain them. If something goes wrong, I'll tell you what happened and what we're doing about it.

My aim is always to leave you with systems that are understandable, supportable and documented, not a black box.

One thing at a time

I normally focus on one or two projects at once. That keeps context switching low and lets me give each job proper attention.

Clear agreements

I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver. I'll be upfront about what can be done, how long it might take and what it's likely to cost.

Long-term thinking

Wherever possible I design systems so they're not painful to look after in a year or three. That includes backups, monitoring and documentation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

A few common questions about the kind of work I take on, how I work and where Willow Software tends to fit best.

What sort of work does Willow Software take on?

I take on bespoke web development, PHP/MySQL application work, website builds, backend systems, third-party API integrations, monitoring improvements, security reviews and stabilisation work for existing platforms. That can range from a smaller business website through to a custom web application or a more operational, data-heavy platform.

Do you work on existing PHP and MySQL systems?

Yes. A lot of my work involves improving, modernising and stabilising existing PHP and MySQL systems. That might mean debugging long-standing issues, improving performance, adding new features, tightening security, or making an older codebase easier to support and maintain properly.

Can you build bespoke web applications?

Yes. I build bespoke web applications for organisations that need something more tailored than an off-the-shelf product. That can include internal tools, client portals, workflow systems, reporting tools, data-driven platforms and web-based operational systems designed around how a business actually works.

Do you help with website security and hardening?

Yes. Security-focused work is part of what I offer. That can include reviewing an existing website or application, reducing unnecessary exposure, improving server and application configuration, tightening access controls, hardening hosting environments and making a system more resilient and supportable over time.

Can you help with monitoring and alerting?

Yes. Monitoring and visibility are a big part of how I think about systems. I can help improve operational insight, reduce noisy alerts, spot problems earlier and build clearer reporting around the health of websites, services and platforms. That also ties closely into Salix Monitor 360.

Do you only work with businesses in Jersey?

Not only Jersey. I am based in Jersey and regularly work with businesses in Jersey and across the Channel Islands, but I also work remotely with clients in the UK and occasionally with clients in Europe, America, Canada and Australia. The projects tend to suit organisations that want direct technical ownership, sensible communication and a strong focus on long-term reliability and it can all be done remotely.

Do you build native Windows, Android and iOS applications?

Yes, I can build native Windows, Android and iOS applications where they genuinely support a wider bespoke web project or platform I am already working on. I do not normally offer standalone desktop or mobile app development unless we discuss the situation first and it clearly fits the project.

Who will I be working with on a project?

You work directly with me, Graeme Moignard. Willow Software is a solo studio rather than an agency with layers of account handling, so communication stays direct and technical ownership stays clear from start to finish.

What is the best way to get in touch about a project?

The best place to start is the contact page. A helpful enquiry usually includes what you want to achieve, what systems or hosting you already have, any timing or security constraints and whether you need help with an existing problem, a new build or ongoing support.

Need a hand?

Need a steady pair of hands on a website, app or system?

Whether you have an existing app that needs stabilising, a bespoke idea that needs building properly, or a website that needs better visibility and security, use the contact form or email me directly here. Tell me what you have, what is annoying you, and what you want it to do next.
